Several years ago I read an article in the local newspaper about a bike tour across east Tennessee. It was one of the most intriguing things I’d read and immediately caused me to want to do something similar. It was an event called BRAT (Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee) and had begun in Kingsport and ended 7 days later near Chattanooga. There were about 250 participants and they had ridden about 400 miles just for the fun of it. It was not a race but what one would call a recreational ride. They camped at campsites and enjoyed meals that were all pre-planned by the organizers. And a large truck transported the cyclists gear from campsite to campsite. Each participant was allowed 2 duffel bags to carry their clothing, tent, sleeping bag and whatever else they thought useful for the next week. They would only carry the essentials for the day on their bikes while riding at their own pace from one site to the next. I had ridden bikes all my life and loved the outdoors so doing something like this had much appeal to me. So, I decided to give it a try the next year and, as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Now some 25 years later I have done many cross state tours around the country and created many new friendships along the way. Hopefully I will be able to share with you some of those exciting times as you explore a few of my adventures while visiting my website.
